In order to be considered for an interview, the successful candidate will need a strong background in some capacity which can include outside consulting services or a municipal employee.

Manages a Department of 10 skilled workers in the maintenance of roads, sidewalks, drainage, cemeteries, highway vehicle and equipment maintenance and repairs.  Highway Department assists with park maintenance, boat launch facilities, and any municipal project where its personnel and equipment can save the Town money.  Administers solid waste operations and manages Chapter 90 Program.  Works with engineers, design professionals and consultants in resolving drainage deficiencies, and issues with culverts, bridges and roadway geometry.  Interacts with MADOT, DEP, FEMA, and other state and federal agencies.  Leads and motivates staff.  Works with other Town Departments and Committees.  Prepares annual operating and capital budgets.  Annually evaluates Town roads to prepare effective street and drainage improvements with available funding.  Candidates must be self-motivated, possess strong work ethic, frugal and inventive, strong leaders.  Civil Engineering license preferred, but not required.  Salary depends upon qualifications and experience.  Position open until filled, but preference given to applications filed by April 2, 2018.  Send letter of interest and resume to Selectmen’s Office, 81 Main St., Swansea, MA  02777 or email to
